LCAA is sponsoring a new senior singing group that is being formed in Lake City! If you enjoy singing or know someone who does, join in the fun. Singers don’t need to live in Lake City to participate. Members of the group will participate in designing the group’s plans to include choral as well as individual talents. No auditions needed. Rehearsals will be each Thursday from 1:00pm – 2:00pm at the Lake City Area Arts Center.
Coleen Fowler has started senior choruses in other communities, directed choruses, taught piano and organ and brings this experience and much enthusiasm to directing this senior chorus.
If you are unable to attend but are interested, contact Coleen Fowler at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Music Circle goal is to provide musical fun and mutually encouraging fellowship. It is a nonjudgmental practice environment for musical participants of all skill levels, a place to build motivation, skill and ones musical repertoire. The meeting times are particularly friendly to seniors starting new or renewing his or her former musicianship. Progress not perfection is the goal. Personal enjoyment and mutual improvement are the first orders of business.
The circle welcomes all player levels from beginners to performers.
All musical instruments are welcome in the music mix.
The music circle mitigates performance anxieties by generally playing without an audience except for family members tolerant of hearing practicing mistakes.
The music circle has no dues but pays a $10 per week room rent and is financially self-supported by voluntary contributions from its members.

Lake City’s spring art festival will have a new face this year!
Lake City Area Arts started with a small group of people who organized the Washington Street Art Festival each year. Back in 2014, this group founded Lake City Area Arts as a non-profit corporation and continued its work on the arts festival.
Now that we have an art center, the festival will be located near the center on Franklin Street, between Lyon Avenue and Chestnut Street instead of on Washington Street.
Live music is being arranged by Eric Stashek, with Lake City youth musicians performing throughout the day on the porch of the arts center. Feel free to bring a chair and stay a while!
The Show and Share painting club is hosting a free youth/family art “make and take” project inside the art center during the day.
We are still taking applications from artists and artisans who would like to display and sell their wares. Participating art can include fabric creations, painting, sculpture, and a wide range of hand crafted creations. Interested persons should email firstname.lastname@example.org to request an application.
Long Time Gone isn’t just about traditional bluegrass. The band branches out into old-timey songs of the 1920s and original songs written by band members. Double fiddle tunes, a touch of Celtic, hard-driving banjo instrumentals and quite a bit of instrument swapping keeps Long Time Gone shows entertaining. “It’s not just about playing the fastest tunes or the most intricate arrangements, it’s also about having fun,” says Ben Manning, who handles much of the band’s front work. “This band evolved from a regular jam session that began back in 2000, and we’ve always valued being good friends. We hope that enjoyment and ‘comfort zone’ of the band comes through in the music we make together.”
Admission is $10 per person.
Eric Stashek, Lincoln High band director, is bringing his Loudmouth Brass group to Lake City to perform for us on Wednesday, June 13, at 7:00pm in Patton Park.
Your ears will smile and your toes will tap when you hear Loud Mouth Brass. With a splash of New Orleans and a pinch of pop music, Loud Mouth Brass has a tasty musical recipe. While the band’s instrumental arrangements of music spanning the gamut from The Jackson Five to Fall Out Boy will make your feet get the urge to dance, with several originals in the mix, this brassy band still makes sure to keep things fresh. From the top of its blue sousaphone to the bottom of its thumping bass drum, this band exudes fun. The band’s line up consists of Becca Combs-Cawley (sousaphone), Zach Sander (tenor sax), Eric Stasheck (bari sax), Jon Knutson (trumpet), Nick Novotny (drum set), and John Sievers (trombone).

A Painted Chair Affair is a FUNdraiser being launched by Kate Halverson.
Paints have been donated so all that you need is a chair and a paint brush and you can create a work of art that you can donate to be sold at Junk Crush or keep for yourself. Your chair can be a solo effort or a team or family creation.
There will be two painting days each month at the arts center.
The Painted Chair Affair that took place on April 6th and 7th was very successful with several artists painting together and several Lake City friends donating a half dozen more chairs for us to paint in preparation for our grand finale – Junk Crush Weekend!
Come to the arts center Saturday & Sunday, June 16th & 17th to join the fun.
